Desert Eagle Mark XIX L6 Description
The Mark XIX Desert Eagle is a gas-operated, uniquely identifiable, large-frame semi-auto pistol built on the foundations of the standard Desert Eagle which is popularly known as the “Deagle”, and regarded as a pop-culture icon today. The L6 is one of the two lighter weight sub models proudly introduced by Magnum Research (now owned by Kahr Arms) nearly a decade ago with the aim of offering a more user-friendly range gun.
Available not just in .357 Magnum but also in .50 AE and .44 Magnum, the L6 version of the Desert Eagle Mark XIX has an overall length of 10.75 inches, and is about 10 oz. lighter than other similar models of the pistol. It is offered with a 6-inch barrel sporting an integral muzzle brake; either a stainless steel or durable black finished slide; a hard-coat anodized black aluminum frame; Hogue® finger groove rubber grips; as well as top and bottom (frame) Picatinny accessory rails.
The Desert Eagle 357 barrel is made of stainless steel, features a six-ribbed polygonal rifling with 1:14” right hand twist, and its porting helps to reduce muzzle flip for increased accuracy.
Equally of stainless steel construction, the slide boasts rear serrations for easier manipulation in any situation; the lightweight aluminum alloy frame makes the Deagle gun easier to steadily aim and carry; the anatomically-formed rubber grips provide a comfortable purchase and assist in recoil mitigation; while the integral top/bottom equipment rails allow for easy installation of aftermarket accessories – such as optics, scope rings and lights – on the Desert Eagle Mark XIX for enhanced performance.
Bear in mind that all models of the Deagle pistol feature a full Picatinny-style rail on the barrel, from the end of the chamber to right behind the front sight; however, only select models like the L6 have, in addition, a second extended accessory rail built into the frame at the bottom of the dustcover.
The slide catch/release on the Desert Eagle 357 Magnum has a notched design that allows for operation with gloved hands, as well as a wide shelf which makes it easy to engage or use, and is automatically engaged after the last round in a magazine is fired. Located on the frame, the magazine release button is positioned on the grip at the rear of the trigger guard for easy activation; the Desert Eagle Mark XIX single action trigger itself is easily manageable with a pull weight of approximately 4 pounds; and the ambidextrous safety, a toggle lever that is pushed up to fire, is located high on the slide.
Note that this slide-mounted safety, when engaged, not only blocks the firing pin to prevent it from moving forward, but it also disconnects the trigger.
Offered with one magazine that can accommodate 9 rounds of .357 mag ammo, the Deagle gun also features a magazine well that is nicely beveled and flared to make mag changes fast; a hammer silhouette with checkering on the upswept top surface for easier cocking; and combat type, fixed sights for efficient target engagement with the Desert Eagle 357.
All considered, this gas operated pistol is a uniquely styled, fun-to-shoot firearm that is powerful, chambered for an affordable cartridge, and now even more manageable than its predecessors thanks to downsized dimensions. Its construction utilizes the latest CNC machine technology which provides exacting specifications with tight tolerances, resulting to a work of art in a precision firearm.

Desert Eagle Mark XIX Additional Information
Gas Operating System
The gas system featured on this Desert Eagle 357 Magnum gas operated pistol functions more like that of a semi auto rifle, than that of a traditional short recoil-operated pistol. This means that gases are bled through holes in the barrel into a tube below the barrel; the tube channels these gases to a piston located in the bottom front of the slide; the gases then generate the force required to move the slide rearward, and the rotating bolt unlocks, extracts and ejects the spent casing, causing the Mark XIX Desert Eagle slide to function in a manner similar to the bolt carrier group in an AR rifle.
This gas system happens to be the heart of the original design of the Deagle gun, one that has proven effective for three decades.
Barrel Rifling
The advantage of the six ribbed polygonal rifling with its 1:14-inch twist is that it reduces barrel wear, and in addition creates a better seal between bullet and barrel than conventional rifling does.
Grips
The anatomically-formed Desert Eagle Mark XIX grip is not quite ideal for those with small hands, though it is relatively well-balanced given the size of the firearm, and provides an ideal hand seating angle for comfortable, rapid and accurate two-handed shooting.
The grip dimensions, especially the depth, are considerably larger than what is obtainable on most traditional semi auto handguns, but the extra-large architecture is beneficial in the sense that it allows the gun to house a nine-round, single-stack .357 magazine, and helps keep the Desert Eagle 357 gun anchored during firing.
Thanks to the soft-touch Hogue wraparound rubber which offers a comfortable interface between your hand and the gun, as well as deep finger grooves that make it appear distinct from older models, the L6 Deagle gun tends to remain planted under recoil.
The finger grooves, along with a pronounced beavertail, promote a high grip on the Desert Eagle Mark XIX while its being fired, and the generous beavertail prevents hammer bite.
Recoil
With the gas system that helps to reduce felt recoil, and barrel porting that minimizes muzzle flip or rise to allow for faster follow-up shots, the recoil impulse generated by this firearm is surprisingly soft – more like a gentle push. This makes the Desert Eagle 357 L6 more pleasant to shoot than some service size semi-automatics.
Accuracy
With the Deagle pistol there’s less variation in the relationship of sights to barrel axis, and this is because – compared to other semi-automatics using a tilt barrel design – the barrel does not move significantly during the firing cycle.
In other words, the difference between the point of aim (POA) and point of impact (POI) of the Desert Eagle 357 Magnum is more consistent and repeatable than with other semi-automatic designs; and if an optic like a long eye-relief scope or red-dot sight is attached, no change occurs in POA and POI because the barrel and optic move in unison.
Takedown
The Deagle gun can be taken down with ease: Just unload the gun; press the button on the left side of the frame (just ahead of the trigger guard) so you can rotate the Desert Eagle Mark XIX takedown lever on the opposite side of the frame 90 degrees; then remove the slide and barrel.
To disassemble the firearm for cleaning and lubrication, use the special tool provided by the manufacturer to remove the bolt guide pin and ream out the gas cylinder. During reassembly, take care to install the gas piston correctly, and to correctly line up the two recoil spring guide rods properly with recesses in the Desert Eagle 357 frame.
Bear in mind that the process of reinstalling the rotating bolt with its three lugs that securely lock it to the barrel can be a bit of a tricky one.
Interchangeability
As the entire Mark XIX Component System is based on a single platform, with its gas operation, rotating bolt and all-steel or aluminum construction, Mark XIX Desert Eagle pistols offer true interchangeability. Once you’ve purchased one, you can change the barrel length or the caliber in seconds, if you have the appropriate Mark XIX components on hand.
In other words, one Deagle pistol gives you the platform to build other variants simply by switching components such as the barrel, magazine(s), and in some cases the bolt assembly.
For example, you can convert the Desert Eagle Mark XIX in .50 AE to .44 Magnum by switching the first two components above, and to .357 Magnum by switching all three.
Recommended Ammunition
Consider the following ammo for use with your new 357 Mag semi automatic pistol:
- Speer Gold Dot Pistol Ammo (158 grain; 1202 fps)
- Hornady Critical Duty (135 grain; 1275 fps)
- Hornady Custom eXtreme Terminal Performance Ammo (158 grain; 1250 fps)
- Sig Sauer V-Crown Ammo (125 grain; 1450 fps)
- Federal Vital-Shok Ammo with Swift A-Frame (180-grain; 1130 fps)
User Manual
The Deagle gun is unlike most pistols in several aspects, so it’s pretty necessary to read the manual before operation. If you’d like to learn how to properly setup, use, and maintain the Desert Eagle Mark XIX even before you buy it, here’s a user manual you can download.
Mark XIX Desert Eagle Reviews
The following are some reviews of this gas operated pistol available online; these will give you a good idea of what shooters like you think of the Desert Eagle handgun.

“A great weapon for those who seek to harness the power, spirit, and courage of the American spirit. The desert eagle encompasses the true meaning of freedom and patriotism.”

“The most impractical pistol i own, but it puts a smile on my face every time I shoot it.
Recoil is very manageable with muzzle break.
Just buy one, You’ll love it.”

“This piece of fine weaponry exceeds my expectations!!! This is a very elegant piece!!! Glad l made this choice!!!”
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/dem-rev4.png)
“This is not a gun for the inexperienced shooter. It is big fun for anyone who doesn’t mind a little recoil. Operation is smooth. The down sides are the controls. Safety is a bit hard reach. Stiff slide release. Trigger has a bit of creep, but a relatively crisp release. Rubber grip seems comfy. Yes, it is large, but I have no trouble reaching the trigger. A fantastic impressive hand cannon.”

“Supper,super,super. My best collectible.”

“I was thrilled to find this gun in stock a couple weeks ago, and even more thrilled my wife gave me the green light to buy this very expensive gun, especially because it’s purely a novelty firearm with no practical purpose (thank you stimulus!). But that’s not what the DE is all about…it’s simply about the “gotta have it factor” am I right?!?
Having said that, the black/stainless combo is absolutely gorgeous in person. Photos truly don’t do it justice. Shooting this beast is quite the handful, literally. This is an absolute monster of a gun – big, heavy, loud, beautiful, and I can’t stop smiling every time I pull the trigger. It functions great, as long as you don’t limp wrist it. The only negative, is $2+ going down range every time you pull the trigger – it’s expensive to shoot! However, if you’re paying this much for a gun, I’m sure the ammo cost is not that big of a deal. I love my new hand cannon!”

Desert Eagle L5
The Mark XIX L5 is the other of the two lightweight sub models of the Deagle gun more recently introduced by Magnum Research.
Like our focus L6 variant, the L5 is also available in .50 AE, .44 Magnum and .357 Magnum, however the barrel is 5 inches long, while the overall length is 9.75 inches. Also, while the L6 pistols feature a stainless steel slide and barrel, L5 barrels and slides are made of carbon steel.
The frame and grip materials, as well as the slide width (1.25 inches) and height (6.25 inches) remain the same for both Mark XIX Desert Eagle sub models. Due to the use of an alloy frame and application of weight reducing cuts, the L5 and the L6 are just under one pound lighter than the steel framed models. They take the same magazines as the current steel models.
