Dan Wesson DWX Description
The remarkable DWX pistol is the result of an innovative idea formed by the brilliant minds at CZ and Dan Wesson. Essentially, it is a grand melding of the two firearm brands, a hybrid of the CZ 75 and DW 1911 with the ergonomics and capacity of a CZ and the crisp single action fire control group of a DW 1911.
Loaded with top-notch features, the competition pistol offers a 4.95-inch, match grade barrel, and this CZ DWX barrel with an aggressive target crown sits flush with the end of the slide and dustcover. The simple locked breech barrel system does away with the standard 1911 link system and uses CZ-style takedown via the low profile, slightly extended slide stop.
Forward of the steel slide are cocking serrations which provide a solid purchase for press checks, and the Dan Wesson DWX slide also boasts a flat top rib with serrations that help to minimize glare between the front and rear sights.
The green fiber optic front sight is provided for those who want to acquire the front sight quickly in daytime lighting; while the rear sight, which is adjustable for height and also serrated at the rear to reduce glare, delivers a crisp sight picture.
Like the slide and rear sight of the DWX 9mm semi auto pistol, the hammer spur, flat-face trigger and controls are all serrated as well.
On this single action 9mm, the slide-to-frame-to-barrel fit can only be described as perfect; in other words, it’s just as tight as it needs to be. The grip frame features a seamless backstrap and beavertail; and, to allow for a superb purchase on the Dan Wesson DWX, thereby making it easier to control, the frame also sports raised 25 LPI (lines-per-inch) checkering on the flat mainspring housing and frontstrap. The thin aluminum grip panels boast even more aggressive checkering, which of course helps ensure that the firearm remains securely in your hand during use.
Similar checkering can be seen on the extended magazine release and at the front of the squared CZ DWX trigger guard for a more tactile feel.
As it has the same grip angle and contours which have made the CZ 75 a stand-out when it comes to pistol ergonomics, this competition pistol that is a CZ 1911 hybrid is a natural fit for most hands. Bear in mind that it can also utilize standard grips from a CZ 75.
Rounding out the CZ-75 profile Dan Wesson DWX frame is a 1913 Picatinny rail which makes it possible and easy for tactical-minded users to add a light or laser. With seven slots, this rail provides enough space for any pistol light, including the largest and most powerful.
The Picatinny rail on this semi auto pistol offers another advantage that competitive shooters will appreciate more, which is that it adds more weight to the front end of the DWX gun, extra weight which helps to tame or absorb recoil.
More features of this firearm, which for many is the best competition pistol, include a square hammer, which is Dan Wesson’s spin on an edgier, tactical, Commander hammer; a flat K-style trigger that is a twist on the standard three-hole trigger which resembles a ‘K’; an ambidextrous 1911-style safety that makes it easy for both left-handed and right-hand shooters of the Dan Wesson DWX to access the safety; and a beveled magazine well opening to ensure that the DWX magazine always inserts neatly.
Two reliable and low-cost, flush-fitting magazines, each sporting a bright red basepad, ship with the firearm which is compatible with CZ P-10F/P-09 double-stack magazines.

DWX 9mm Additional Information
Operating System
This CZ 1911 hybrid comes with a single-action-only, recoil-operated system, which means that it uses the energy of recoil to cycle the action; and the hammer has to be cocked for the DWX pistol to fire.
When the hammer is cocked, one can, by pushing it up, engage the bilateral manual thumb safety which has conveniently extended levers.
Barrel
As it uses the CZ-style takedown via the slide stop, instead of the standard 1911 swinging link system, this firearm’s barrel system lends itself to easier take-down which any hammer-fired CZ owner will find familiar.
Unique to the CZ DWX as well, the ramped barrel has a flared end to more tightly mate with the slide which itself rides outside the frame’s rails like an M1911, and CZ users will also find it easier to remove this match-grade barrel due to the bushing-less barrel system that resembles that of a P-10 or P-09/P-07.
![DWX Pistol Barrel](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/dwx-front.png)
To protect its accuracy potential, the Dan Wesson DWX barrel is deeply crowned, and its muzzle – together with the slide face and dust cover – gives the competition pistol a flat and distinctive look.
Sights
The front sight is composed of steel with a fiber optic insert; the fiber optic gathers in light and creates a glowing dot which is hard to miss in any light, even against a bright background.
![Dan Wesson DWX Front Sight](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/dwx-front-sight-300x170.png)
Great for range use, the basic, black and serrated DWX pistol rear sight comes with a click–adjustable screw on top to allow elevation adjustments. For windage adjustments, the two set screws which secure the sight in the dovetail can be loosened, allowing it to drift.
![CZ DWX Rear Sight](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/dwx-rear-300x281.png)
The sights are easily customized, with a 1911-style dovetailed sight in the front and a CZ Shadow 2 style sight cut at the rear.
Finish
The diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating which has been applied to the Dan Wesson DWX frame and slide was preferred over, say, bluing which the M1911s and CZ 75s feature, because it is exceptionally hard and corrosion-resistant, and also has low friction properties.
Bear in mind that “DLC” is a general term for several different types of nanocomposite finishes.
Applications
While the manufacturer does not explicitly state that the CZ DWX was designed for competitive applications, the firearm’s size, weight, caliber, and trigger which promotes fast and accurate shooting, make it unquestionably suited for that purpose.
In other words, this soft-shooting competition pistol can hold its own in any action pistol sport with a division to accommodate it. The USPSA Limited Division comes to mind.
The 9mm chambering and the presence of a rail to which a light or laser can be attached, also make the accurate Dan Wesson DWX a great candidate for home defense roles.

“The Dan Wesson DWX, it is everything people say it is and more! Can’t find this gun anywhere.”

“Not one Jam
Smooth and Perfect”
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/dwx-rev3.png)
“Overall great gun. Only shot 120-130 rounds through it. Unfortunately the one of the rear sight screws worked their way out but Cz is sending replacements. Keep a watchful eye out. Also just a side note, The last four digits of your serial number will be roughly on to the underbelly of the barrel. It’s not the best looking but I talked with CZ representative and he said that is on all of them”

“Yes we all wish it came optic cut out of the gate, and yes we wish it was more retably available. But the gun is simply amazing, feels great in the hand and recoil impulse is very tamed. I put 200rd thru mine the first outing and not a single hiccup. Glad I was able to add this to my collection.”

“As an owner of multiple high end 1911’s, 3 Staccatos, (Including their flagship XL model) I can tell you this is undoubtedly the best feeling handgun I’ve ever held. Ergo’s are second to none! Sights and presentation are perfect, along with balance, grip circumference, width, K style flat faced trigger, the 3lb. break and crisp firm reset. The slide cycles effortlessly by hand, although not quite as glassy smooth as the Staccato XL, with a good break in period it’ll be right there
19+1 capacity in a flush fit inexpensive, proven, and reliable CZ P10F mag, CZ style slightly extended and reversible mag release button with 1911 style retaining screw and spring, CZ 75 grip interchangeability, ambi safety, full picatinny rail, recessed crowned bull DLC coated barrel, flat wire non-captive recoil spring and full length guide rod, aggressive front and rear cocking serrations, CZ Shadow 2 rear blacked out serrated sight with thin blade 1911 front green fiber optic.
Comes with 2 mags and a beautiful embroidered padded range bag wearing the bold DWx and Dan Wesson logos.
In my opinon, the 2011 world has been officially put on notice, there is a new kid on the block and he’s playing for keeps.
Just buy it, you won’t regret it!!”
Remember you can get the Dan Wesson DWX, which appears to be the best competition pistol for some, from the authorized sellers below:

These are all pretty much identical in appearance to our focus variant (92001).
Dan Wesson also offers compact models of the DWX pistol, as highlighted below.
DWX Compact
Concealed carriers who of course tend to go for firearms that are as compact as possible will find the Dan Wesson DWX Compact a more attractive option than the full-size variant.
Variants under this category are as follows:
Dan Wesson DWX Compact Light Rail (92101)

Barrel Length | 4.95 in. | 12.57 cm | 4.0 in. | 12.16 cm |
Overall Length | 8.5 in. | 21.59 cm | 7.47 in. | 18.97 cm |
Overall Width | 1.5 in. | 3.81 cm | 1.24 in. | 3.15 cm |
Overall Height | 5.85 in. | 14.86 cm | 5.21 in. | 13.23 cm |

Optic-Ready | Select Variant(s) Only | Select Variant(s) Only |

The DWX Compact is clearly smaller, lighter in weight and, consequently, more suitable for concealed carry than the full size DWX pistol.
Bear in mind that while the full frame variants of this firearm use a magazine based on the CZ P-09/P-10 F, compact variants use that designed for the CZ 75 Compact.
