Kershaw Lucha Description
The Lucha is the first Kershaw Butterfly Knife offering, as well as one of the most popular knives of 2020, thanks to its high quality, impressive performance, and affordable price. Apparently the team at Kershaw Knives, known for the fast and smooth operating folders they make, distilled all their knowledge of knives into it.
If you’re into flipping, or you’d like to try your hands at it, the Kershaw Balisong was designed with you in mind.
Coming to features, it starts with a blade made of premium Sandvik 14C28N steel; this 4.6-inch long, drop point blade with a plain edge and flat grind is tapered so that the top has more weight to pendulum around smoothly, and the dual KVT ball-bearing pivots on which the blade runs play a significant role in ensuring that the opening action of the Kershaw Lucha is extra fluid.
Another feature is the Latch lock mechanism which boasts a positive stop that prevents it from making contact with the blade; this lock is also rounded, removing the possibility of it catching as you flip the Kershaw Butterfly Knife.
This tool is in addition outfitted with stainless steel, silver-colored handles. These Kershaw Lucha handles are designed such that their bevel is rounded, and this makes them roll effortlessly in the hand.
Come what may, this light, fast butterfly knife will jump, fly, and spin in your hands, because the full-sized, USA-made Kershaw Balisong was designed with feedback from real flippers.

Kershaw Lucha Additional Information
Blade Steel
Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel, which the Kershaw Lucha Balisong blade is made of, contains increased nitrogen and chromium in its formula; as a result, this steel has corrosion resistance and hardenability qualities which can only be described as excellent. So if your requirement is a knife with an exceptionally tough blade, one that will withstand challenging applications without chipping or breaking, look no further than the Kershaw Butterfly Knife.
Blade Finish
For this particular model (5150) of the Kershaw Balisong, the blade wears a stonewashed finish which is created by acid-etching the blade, usually in ferric chloride, and then neutralizing it with a mixture of baking soda.
To achieve the distressed texture and look of this unique finish, the blade is literally distressed – in other words, abrasions are created on it – using friction which occurs as it is run through a dryer with small falling and scraping stones, and a lubricant.
The Kershaw Lucha blade, as a result, has a purposefully-created worn look which is highly resistant to scratches, as well as signs of wear and tear. On a polished blade, such flaws would look very noticeable, thus marring the knife’s overall appearance.
Handle Finish
The handle of this flipping tool wears a bead-blasted finish. Bead-blasting is a flexible, multi-purpose surface finish process in which high-pressure glass or steel beads are shot at a CNC-machined component.
This Kershaw Balisong bead blast handle finish is soft, smooth and even; in other words, it creates a uniform surface with a dull, satin, or rough texture, which has resulted to the improved overall appearance of the Kershaw Lucha handles.
Beyond improving the appearance of a steel surface, bead-blasting also hardens the surface, thereby making it more durable.
Hardware Finish/Coating
Steel pivots and steel screws, both coated with black-oxide, as well as a black anodized aluminum tube spacer, altogether make up the hardware of the Kershaw Butterfly Knife. Black oxide is a coating which not only enhances the appearance of parts or products, but also increases their service life by providing resistance against abrasion and corrosion.
Anodizing, on its own, also results to excellent corrosion and abrasion resistance, while preventing fading and adhesion failure, and providing an authentic metallic sheen, lustre and feel.
Kershaw Butterfly Knife Reviews
Many flippers and regular knife users have purchased and used the Kershaw Lucha flipping knife; the following are reviews from a few of them:

“What a great balisong, incredible quality for the price. Both of the ones I have were great out of the box, excellent tuning. Love the bearings. I have half a dozen balis and use these the most. Good general knife as well, if a bit long for an EDC. A lot of butterfly knives have a nice clack when flipping…these are more of a clink. I don’t mind; it gives them a steampunk vibe. Awesome job Kershaw.”

“Bought this knife a few years ago. Never had a problem with it. It’s hands down one of the best knives in my collection. Highly recommend.”

“Shoutout to the quality team at Kershaw Lucha. Well done, I am impressed. Great ratios! Balance is key. Material, design, and price.
Hold the 5150 and the Benchmade in hand. Acknowledge the differences, look at the price, remember the lifetime warranty, then buy the Kershaw Lucha 5150.”

“Overall, good knife. Perfect edc knife. Mostly good flipper, minus the weight but it is easy to get used to. Good platform for mods. Needs a little lube out of the box. Great for the price. Would recommend.”

“This knife is absolutely great and its nice to see a big name company like kershaw giving some attention to the balisong community. The knife it a bit heavy out of the box but what your buying at this price point isn’t a perfect flipping experience but instead a modding platform and mods like the flytanium channel aluminum handles make this permanent daily driver knife. I think i am a somewhat unusual buyer because i am into balisong as a hobby but i also work nightshift packing and loading trucks at a pool supply wear house and its so satisfying to have a knife that feels amazing in my hands but not having to worry about things like edge retention. I my own stupidity fucked up one of the pivots during some maintenance and kershaws parts and services department had the correct replacement parts shipped to me at no cost to me and i was back up and flipping in under 7 days. If you wanna get into the balisong hobby and you want a knife that can grow with you in terms of parts (I’ve spent more money then I payed for the knife on mods for it) then i cant recommend this enough”
