Browning Citori 725 Over Under Shotgun Description
The evolution of John M. Browning’s legendary B25 Superposed, this Citori 725 Sporting is a modern and highly functional double barrel shotgun that utilizes the most innovative designs to give sporting clay shooters a competitive edge.
Very popular with sporting clay competitors, the Citori 725 series of shotguns offers many standout performance features, one of which is a low-profile receiver. While it is significantly lower, the Browning Citori 725 receiver still offers the renowned durability of generations of Citori Over and Unders with the same rugged full-width hinge pin and tapered locking bolt design. In addition, it provides improved recoil control by pushing the gun straight back into the shoulder.
The full-width hinge pin and the transverse mounted locking bolt design are features which result to improved strength without extra weight.
Features exclusive to the Sporting sub model of the Browning 725 Citori series which is ideal for sporting clays/skeet include ported barrels (on 12 and 20 gauge models); five extended choke tubes; a 50/50 POI (point of impact); a low-post floating rib; a Triple Trigger System with three trigger shoes; gold enhanced engraving; a gloss oil finish Grade III/IV walnut stock with close radius grip and palm swell; as well as a HiViz® Pro Comp front sight and ivory mid-bead sight to make target acquisition with the Browning Citori 725 double barrel shotgun easy.
These exclusive features and more make the Sporting for many shooters, the best Over Under shotgun money can buy.
The earlier-discussed low profile receiver, the locking bolt which design ensures tight receiver lockup, and the full-width hinge pin that maximizes strength and durability, are all features found on all shotguns in the series.
More of such general features of 725 Browning Citori shotguns include chambers with a chrome-plated finish which enhances longevity; a Fire Lite Mechanical trigger that offers an unmatched feel and lighter pull weights than ever before; Steel Shot Performance; an Inflex recoil pad for more comfortable shooting; Total Barrel Dynamics; a Vector Pro lengthened forcing cone; an Invector-DS choke tube system; and Back-Bored technology.
Bear in mind that the last four features are offered only on 12 and 20 gauge models of the Browning 725 Citori. The 28 gauge and .410 bore models have one feature exclusive to them, which is the presence of a Standard Invector Choke Tube System.
With a Citori 725, what you get is the balance, form and excellence that translates into that “one with the gun” feeling every shooter wants, with the long lasting durability expected from a Browning Over Under shotgun.

Browning 725 Citori Additional Information
Fire Lite Mechanical Trigger
The Browning Citori 725Fire Lite mechanical trigger that delivers a light, smooth pull is a big part of the Citori 725’s performance package. Fire Lite, unlike an inertia trigger, does not rely on recoil to set the next shot; instead, you get immediate second shot capability.
In other words, by not depending on inertia to reset the second hammer, a mechanical trigger makes an immediate second shot possible, without the shooter having to worry about their firearm doubling unexpectedly.
![Citori 725 Fire Lite Trigger System](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/fire-lite.webp)
The innovative design of this trigger system on the 725 Browning Citori double barrel shotgun offers reduced take up, a crisp break, and shorter overtravel.
Invector-DS (Double Seal) Choke Tube System
The biggest leap forward in design since interchangeable choke tubes were introduced, the Browning Invector-DS choke tube system has taken the proven thin wall, muzzle thread choke concept to the next level of shot pattern performance.
![Browning Citori 725 Invector-DS Choke Tube System](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/invector-ds-287x300.webp)
The exclusive brass alloy band at the base of the Browning Citori 725 tube seals out gas and grit that sneaks between the barrel and tube, making the Invector-DS tubes easy to remove even after extensive shooting; thin wall construction reduces the flare at the end of the barrel, making the shotgun appear sleeker; and the Invector-DS offers the most consistent, reliable tightening of any system ever.
More information on the Browning 725 Citori Invector-DS choke tube system can be found here.
Ported Barrels
Ported barrels (barrels with small holes drilled near their muzzle) such as are featured on this Over Under shotgun are preferred as they help to reduce recoil and muzzle jump or rise. Depending on the gun, load, barrel length and even the shooter, barrel porting can reduce muzzle rise up to 50%. As a result, shooters can achieve better accuracy and faster follow-up shots.
Total Barrel Dynamics
The concept of Total Barrel Dynamics covers every aspect of the barrel that contributes to the overall performance of the Browning Citori 725 barrels. This may include improvements to some or all of these key barrel features on most 12 and 20 gauge models.
These barrel aspects include:
- Chamber
- Forcing Cone Design (Vector Pro, on selected models)
- Barrel Steel and Manufacturing Process
- Barrel Contour
- Bore Diameter (Back Boring)
- Choke Tube System Design (For example Invector Plus and Invector-DS)
- Choke Tube Constriction and Scaling
Bear in mind that not all Browning shotguns have Total Barrel Dynamics, and that some have only portions of the package of features.

Steel Shot Performance
Browning has long been at the forefront of dependable steel shot performance and durability. Therefore, unlike some manufacturers’ barrels which face an uncertain future after having steel shot through them, Browning barrels, including of course the barrels of this Citori 725 Sporting double barrel shotgun in focus, are built to handle the punishment of steel shot.
The strength of a Browning barrel is in fact legendary. More info on steel shot performance is available right here.
Inflex II Recoil Pad Technology
Browning describes the Inflex Technology recoil pad as “the most comfortable, effective pad available.” This description is quite accurate as the Browning Citori 725 Inflex Technology is way beyond a mass of recoil absorbing material – the innovation is engineered into the pad.
![Browning 725 Citori Inflex II Recoil Pad System](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/infles-ii-300x278.webp)
An internal skeleton that has been designed using the concept of directional deflection is present underneath the material. When a Browning with the Inflex recoil pad is fired, the pad collapses, but instead of simply moving to the rear, directional ribs pull the comb down and away from the Browning 725 Citori shooter’s face for enhanced shooting comfort and faster follow-ups.
Read more about this technology and watch the video here.
HiViz® Pro Comp Sight
Browning chose HiViz sighting systems for their intelligent design, extra durability, superior brightness and in-the-field effectiveness.
These sighting systems which are featured on their firearms, from their turkey guns to their top end competitive sporting clays shotguns such as this Sporting Browning Citori 725, boast light-gathering LitePipes which make low-light shooting effortless; which can easily be replaced if lost or damaged; and which are offered in a wide variety of shapes, colors and sizes to adapt your sporting firearm to any situation.
Bear in mind that many HiViz sights are fully adjustable and come with specific training or ability enhancements, such as the ability to shoot, for example, the Citori 725 Sporting with both eyes open, or requiring your eye to be correctly in line with the stock in order to see the sight.
Box Contents
In the box of this double barrel shotgun you’ll find the barrel separated from the receiver, but with the forend attached; the receiver and buttstock; choke tubes; as well as other accessories including three types of front beads: red, green and plain white fiber optics.

Recommended Ammunition
For sporting clays, trap and skeet shooting with the 725 Browning Citori, the following are some birdshot ammo that shoot pretty well and get the job done:
- Winchester AA Diamond Grade 12 Gauge (1 oz. | #7.5 | 1250 fps)
- Federal Premium Top Gun 12 Gauge (7/8 oz. | #8 | 1200 fps)
- Fiocchi’s range of Golden Pheasant ammo, such as the 12 gauge #6 shot variant
Bear in mind that, just like the gun itself, these ammunition are available in gauges other than 12. If for instance you purchase one of the 20 gauge variants of the Sporting shotgun, 20 gauge, #7.5 shot Golden Pheasant and 20 gauge Federal Premium Top Gun ammo are available.
Browning Citori 725 Reviews
The following are just a few user reviews which indicate that the Browning 725 Citori could just be the best Over Under shotgun available on the market:
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/bcs-rev.png)
“Well made gun with flexibility to shoot skeet, trap, and spotting. The barrel break is quite snug being a new gun. Expecting years of fun.”
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/bcs-rev2.png)
“I love the gun. It is nicely made and great for most ages. I use it for trap and sporting clays and occasionally hunting.”
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/bcs-rev3.png)
“I bought the 725 12ga/32″ about 2 months ago because I got roped into a league shoot and didn’t want to bang the guy to my right with the shell from my benelli SBE3. I have put about 2500 rounds through it over the past 2 months, and I have had zero issues. It is “almost” broken in to where it drops the barrel without a bit of help.
Note- skeet chokes seem to be sold out everywhere and now IC, too. I love the choke system on the 725, but browning needs to get off their duff and make some dang chokes.
Shot a 24 and a 21 on trap yesterday with it and an 82 on my last sporting clays round. It’s not the gun that missed, it was me. Shooting 20+ skeet. 20+ 5stand at local places.”

“Definitely not disappointed with this shotgun. This gun exceeded the expectations I had when I ordered it online.”

“Gun is a pleasure. The adjustable stock is a must, and is easy to adjust. Wish it came with two skeet chokes , but we fixed that already.”
