Henry Axe 410 Description
The Lever Action Axe .410 takes its root from the H018 series of lever-action .410 bore shotguns chambered for 2.5” shotshells only, and its name was inspired by the axe handle shape of its pistol grip.
Made of genuine American walnut, the pistol grip is smooth; provides a full purchase on the Henry Axe; features a sling-swivel stud on the lower rear end; and sports the iconic Henry Cowboy logo which is engraved on its upper rear end to add that touch of Henry class that is unmistakable:
![Henry Axe Grip Logo](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/ha-grip-logo.png)
The fore-end is expectedly made of smooth walnut as well, and its steel cap is also equipped with a sling-swivel stud; as such, you can carry the Henry Axe 410 with a two-point sling.
Noticeably short when compared to Henry’s 19.75-inch and 24-inch barrel sporting .410s, the smooth bore, round profile barrel features a muzzle that is internally threaded for invector-style chokes, and comes standard with a Full choke. A brass bead front sight has been mounted on top of the barrel for easier target acquisition with the Axe shotgun.
Consistent with other Henry firearms, the top of the matte-finished receiver is drilled and tapped, and so can accept Weaver 63B-type optic rails or scope mounts; while the right side of the receiver boasts a loading gate as well as an ejection port.
Just like the full-size Henry Lever Action .410 shotguns, this firearm boasts a total 5+1-round capacity of 2 ½ inch shells. A welcome and convenient new feature of the .410 Axe, the side loading gate makes it easier to load the 5-round tubular magazine or to keep the capacity topped off without having to pull the magazine plug out and drop the rounds in.
Bear in mind that the magazine lacks a loading port, but of course, one can still remove the brass liner in order to unload and clean the Henry Axe 410 easily.
Also featured is a lever that is curved and rounded to match the shape of the grip; an exposed hammer which incorporates a transfer bar safety mechanism; and a smooth faced trigger that offers a short, clean pull and breaks at about 6-lbs. 10-oz.
All the external components of the Henry 410 Axe, including the receiver, barrel, tubular magazine, lever, hammer and trigger, are all of blued steel construction.
On the whole, this unique firearm is remarkably fun to operate and shoot, thanks to its design, features, heft, balance and lever action.

Henry Axe Additional Information
Barrel
As mentioned earlier, the Henry 410 barrel is threaded for Invector-style choke tubes; the advantage this offers is that it enables you control your pattern size for specific activities, whether it’s hunting, varmint control, or plinking.
While the weapon only comes right out of the box with a Full choke, additional choke sizes – including Cylinder Bore and an Extra Full Turkey – and accessories are available for purchase.
The Henry Axe 410 removable choke tube helps to further enhance the already impressive performance of the smooth bore barrel.
Transfer Bar Safety
This safety mechanism is simply a bar connected to the trigger, and which lies between the hammer and firing pin, preventing the tip of the hammer from coming in contact with the primer of the chambered cartridge when the hammer is at rest.
The Henry 410 Axe is safe to carry and operate due to the presence of this simple yet effective safety mechanism that prevents accidental discharges.
Sights
Even more simple in design is the brass bead (or ball) sight mounted on the barrel of this Lever Action 410 shotgun. This aiming mechanism has proven effective in a wide range of lighting conditions, and is quite durable.
Recoil
Unlike Mossberg’s lighter 590 Shockwave which it shares some similarities with, the 5.7 lb. Henry Axe 410 more easily soaks up recoil with most loads. Its all-steel construction makes the recoil or kick produced by even the “hottest” 2½” .410 bore shells modest and easy to tame.
Applications
As the manufacturer put it, “Not all firearms need to fit neatly into categories like hunting, home protection, or good ol’ backyard plinking. Simply being fun to pull out of the scabbard and shoot again and again should be a category all its own”
The Axe 410 is not just fun to shoot at the range – it also has more practical uses than is apparent at a glance.
Thanks to interchangeable chokes and the variety of high-quality shot shells it effortlessly “eats”, the firearm is quite suitable for hunting small game or varmint, which makes it a great saddle/seat gun for an ATV/UTV.
With a barrel length of approximately 15 inches and an overall length of just over 26 inches, the Henry Axe 410 is easier to store and maneuver in confined spaces than the average shotgun, which makes it also a good choice for home defense.
410 Gauge Advantages
The .410 gauge caliber is known for its ability to deliver sufficient stopping power while producing manageable recoil. As a result, smaller, new or inexperienced users can comfortably use the Henry Axe and still maintain accuracy even in the most stressful of situations.
