S&W M&P FPC Description
The optics-ready M&P FPC showcases Smith & Wesson’s brand new, compact, folding design. It folds horizontally, and the folding mechanism features a robust locking latch which, when pressed, allows the handguard and barrel to be rotated – on the hinge at the front of the receiver – to the left side of the carbine:
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/sw-fpc-folding-219x300.webp)
The horizontal folding design doesn’t interfere with top-mounted optics (sold separately), but bear in mind that the Smith & Wesson M&P FPC cannot be folded while a cartridge is chambered.
While unfolded, the rifle comes in at 30.4 inches; when folded however, it is just 16.3 inches long, making its storage and transportation quite easy.
Chambered in 9mm, the 16.3-inch barrel boasts a 1/2-28 threaded muzzle with thread protector, as pictured below:

This S&W M&P FPC barrel is housed within an M-Lok handguard with ample slots for equipment like lights and lasers, and the 1913 Picatinny rail installed on top of the handguard makes it easy to mount optics, such as a red dot sight.
The M&P well-textured pistol-style polymer grip offers a comfortable and secure purchase on the folding 9mm carbine, and comes with optional inserts for grip customization; while the stock, which is not adjustable but fits most shooters well, serves as a good cheek rest.
Also present on the rifle is a flat-face trigger which breaks at about 5.5 lbs. and features a sharp reset; a cross-bolt safety mechanism that is positive in operation; a racking, cocking, or charging handle behind the M&P FPC receiver that reciprocates as the weapon is fired, and which doubles as retainer when folded; an ambidextrous bolt release; and a magazine catch that is reversible.
One 17-round magazine and two 23-round magazines, in addition to a carrying bag with additional storage and Velcro® straps, ship standard with this model of the U.S.A.-made S&W M&P FPC. The 17-round mag is flush-fitting while the 23-round one is extended.
Bear in mind that the firearm is fully compatible with M&P® full-size as well as compact pistol double-stack magazines.

S&W M&P FPC Additional Information
Barrel Material & Finish
4140 CM (Chrome-Molybdenum) steel is a highly versatile low alloy steel which is very tough, with torsional and fatigue strength that is particularly high. Due to its grade, this M&P FPC barrel steel is used in aerospace and other industries; it is tougher than most grades of carbon and stainless steel.
The black oxide finish applied to the barrel provides decent protection against corrosion, and even absorbs shocks well.
Receiver Finish
Hard coat anodizing, which is the treatment that the S&W M&P FPC 9mmreceiver underwent, is one that increases the surface hardness of an aluminum part significantly, making it very abrasion and corrosion resistant. It also improves the thermal and dialectical properties of aluminum.
Grip
The pistol-style grip featured on this firearm correlates to the Military & Police compact grip frame. As a result, the full range of magazines from 15 to 23-round capacity can be inserted into the Smith & Wesson M&P FPC. Those who own a compact size 9mm S&W M&P firearm will find that their magazines fit.
With the provided grip inserts you can change out the default backstrap and fine-tune the grip to fit your hand:

Stock
Designed to house two spare magazines securely, the S&W M&P FPC stock features a carrier, and this in-stock magazine storage w/ quick-release latch makes reloading quick and convenient:
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/sw-fpc-mags-in-stock-300x196.webp)
The security of this mag storage lies in the fact that, while stored in it, your magazines are not likely to be detached accidentally; some practice is needed to operate the magazine holder release which responds more easily when the stock is oriented upside down.
Crossbolt Safety
The S W FPCcross-bolt safety is a type of manual safety, a simple, push-button action that utilizes a metal bar which can be positioned to act as a positive block to trigger movement. As is typically the case on other firearms, it is located at the trigger guard.
Recoil Buffer System
The recoil buffer system integrated into the M&P FPC does a good job of cushioning the impact of its recoiling parts. In other words, the firearm, like all carbines chambered in 9mm, has some momentum but light recoil; it is also more pleasant to fire as it produces less muzzle blast.
Storage
The storage or carrying bag that comes with the S&W M&P FPC is quite well-designed, boasting compartments for additional magazines, accessories, and spare grip inserts:

Applications
While it’s quite suitable for recreational shooting, the FPC is a formidable firearm for defensive purposes as the 9mm Luger gains more velocity when shot through a 16-inch carbine barrel than a handgun barrel. The higher velocity which the Smith & Wesson M&P FPC delivers makes for improved expansion potential and greater accuracy.

“I have owned three different folding carbines (Lel Tec P2000, Trailblazer Pivot, M&P FPC) and the FPC is by far my favorite. It has the best ergonomics of them all.
I am enjoying shooting it. It is comfortable and accurate. All I could ask for.

“Ordered it August 14th and it arrived August 17th. Also had 3 cases of 9mm delivered the same day. Hit the range right after work. Installed a spare Holosun 510C I had, and zeroed ot to 50yrds. All 🎯 at 25yrds; 40yrds; 50yrds; 60yrds & just outside the bullseye at 75yrds. Bad eyesight (,severe astigmatism) and red dot wouldn’t let me get a good focus out to 80yrds and 100yrds. I’ll be back with a 510CGR and 3X magnifier though. My eyes see the green a lot crisper than the red dots. Ran 115gr & 124gr Magtech 50rds each, 50rds of 124gr Grindhard, 100rds of Igman, and 100rds 124gr Federal HST. Not a single malfunction. Only con, first 2 or 3 shots got my mustache hairs caught in the charging handle. Other than that my only concern is beefing up my 9mm stockpile so that I can keep this fun-gun fed. I absolutely see it being ran at my next steel challenge match & probably a few USPSA matches just to peeve the guys running $2k to $4k JP Enterprises PCC’s”

“Nice foldable gun. Easily manageable as well it’s a Smith and Wesson so I’m partial. Not much about the gun that I don’t like and the only thing that would make it better in my opinion would be an adjustable stock for us taller people”
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/fpc-rev5.png)
“I love my new FPC and how I’m able to carry 64 rounds in the 3 mags with one in the pipe. Once pulled out of the bag and flipped open it is ready for business so a good carry carbine in the truck or car. Because of the weight of the gun it does have a bit of a kick for a 9mm but nothing that keeps you off target. I added a green laser along with a Holoson scope sight. Once I had those two dialed in it was pretty easy to nail the bullseye.”

“The M&P FPC is awesome! Incredibly accurate out to 50 yards. This is in my bug out bag along with a Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm full size. Interchangeable magazines between them.”
![](https://armsintel.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/fpc-rev7.png)
Purchased this locally. Only one outing so far, and the rifle functioned perfectly. 50 rounds each of two different 115gr FMJ (including regular Blazer), and 50 rounds each of two different 124gr. No malfunctions of any type. Only used a red dot and shot at plinking type targets, so did not really evaluate inherent accuracy. But accuracy seems to be quite good. I might just have to mount a scope on it and see what it can do at 100. No cons so far, but will mount a few things on the polymer handguard and see how it holds up. Not really a con, but if you buy one, keep an eye on the thread protector as it likes to unwind while shooting. Will have to get a washer or something for this. So far, this is the most interesting purchase of the year, and I am really liking it.”
